🦁🎨A Roaring Success at Penistone Arts Week!
Something wildly wonderful has been happening behind the scenes at Penistone Arts Week…
In true lion-hearted spirit, we set out on a mission to support a great cause. To celebrate Sheffield Children’s Hospital’s latest fundraiser, we proudly adopted one of their adorable cubs.

But every cub needs its own unique markings… so we reached out to local schools and invited young creatives to unleash their imagination! The challenge? Design our cub, with the winning school earning the honour of giving this little lion a forever home as a symbol of creativity, community, and compassion.

Grace’s fantastic design was brought to life with the help of fellow young artists Briley Harrison (10), Amelia Crownshaw (10), and Caitlyn Booth (11). Together with our committee member Barbara Lee and Penistone Art Collective volunteers Sally Howe, Deb Hepplestone, and Lucy Burns, they transformed the cub into a truly roar-some masterpiece.

We think you’ll agree — it looks absolutely paws-itively amazing! 🐾✨
And the adventure doesn’t stop there. The sculptures will initially go on safari across Barnsley, Sheffield, Doncaster and Rotherham as part of an art trail and then return to St John’s Primary School.
Each year during Arts Week, our fierce little friend will take pride of place (of course!) at St John’s Church, where everyone can come and admire its bold and beautiful look.
‘BE ON THE HUNT’ BOOK TRAIL
Running alongside this—and keeping the lion theme roaring—our Book Trail this year will focusses on books about lions.
There are 20 clues hidden in shop and café windows around town for children to solve, with the chance to win £50 in book tokens—a fantastic prize to support their creative literacy journey.
Ask your school if they’re running their own local trail too, and your child could win an additional £10 book token.
